I like to have some bubble tea after work, and felt that since it's so expensive I should put a little more thought into it than mindless consumption. So, here's some reviews. All of these are from Northland Shopping Center.
Photos coming soon!
I liked this tea quite a bit! I got a bit squeamish about the basil seeds. I know they're fine but swallowing them felt like I was swallowing something I shouldn't.
The GongCha at Northlands seems a bit like a horrible place to work. Constantly busy, stuck between Myer and the rest of the Middle-Australian Woman Paradise, featuring Dusk and Q"B"D.
I can't complain too much about service in that case. It was a bit slow, but it was the same chick as last time. I'd rather a long wait than her getting fired.
I usually don't like coconut flavoured things, so I'm not really sure why I bought this. I think I was trying to work through all the Flavoured Milk Teas, and this was next.
Despite not really liking coconut, this was pretty alright. I'm eternally thankful that there weren't chunks of coconut. Looked totally fuckin bland though.
Very good tea. When it was done, it had these dark green streaks in a lighter green, with black pearls at the bottom tying it together.
Really great taste, too! Super sweet matcha flavour, pretty vegetal and not bitter at all.
I absolutely hate to complain about service, but this one took like 5 minutes to order, there was a huge line that formed behind me, and I was told I couldn't do "less ice" seemingly arbitrarily. Like, ew. As you can see, wayy too much ice at the end, and wasted pearls! I hate wasted pearls.
Hmm. I've never really had any bubble teas that aren't milk until this point. Well, actually, my first one ever was something like this but it was back when bubble tea had square toppings, when I was a kid.
The peachyness and green tea were really nice and great for the temperature, but the white pearls... God, those white pearls. I was expecting like a milder tapioca flavour, but they were agar-agar. Which would be fine, but if they called them agar pearls I would have had better expectations. Anyway, it sorta ruined it. They had this rough texture on the outside too.
I'll try something like it again, but it felt like a waste.
I have no idea what the history of Thai milk tea is. I've heard great things about Thai Coffee, but I've never had it because I steer clear of Thai due to my nut allergies. Hold your cum jokes, please.
It really didn't taste much different from Premium pearl, but it felt a little sweeter, maybe a little creamier? I don't really know. The drink itself is this absolutley lovely orange colour, not sure what from, probably whatever made it taste slightly different.
Pearls were great as always.
Premium Pearl is my baseline or standard for bubble teas. If it's worse than this, I won't order it again. If it's better, then it might end up coming back as a regular. It's a really nice drink, and for the relative price I think it's worth it after as many hours as I work over a hot grill.
It's the perfect sweetness with a light tea flavour. Boba pearls will always be my favourite topping, next to pudding.
